Indiana, Pennsylvania, the Christmas Tree Capital of the World, is located just one hour east of Pittsburgh at the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains. Growing Christmas Trees, as a farm crop in Indiana County, started in 1918.  Each year, visitors and residents alike drive out to their favorite Christmas tree farm to select their favorite FRESH tree to enjoy during the holiday season.  Embrace your Christmas traditions or start a new one by selecting your Christmas tree from one of the many Christmas tree farms throughout Indiana County, PA.

Christmas Tree Decorating Contest:
A Christmas tree decorating contest will be held at 740 Philadelphia Street, Indiana, PA 15701.   The space will be open for spectators and votes (via donations) the following times: Fridays 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Saturdays 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Sundays 12:00 PM -3:00 PM and Wednesdays 12:00 PM – 7:00, beginning on December 4 and ending on December 20, with the winner being announced December 20.  The money donated for votes will be donated to the Teddy Bear Fund Drive. 

Caroling is scheduled for the evenings of Wednesday, December 2, 9 and 16 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.  Caroling will begin in the park and then groups can divide to carol up and down Philadelphia Street. 

Jimmy Stewart Museum
“It’s A Wonderful Life” in Indiana County and what a better place to enjoy the holiday season than in the birthplace of Jimmy Stewart, Hollywood’s film star of that famous Christmas Classic!  Explore Jimmy’s amazing life at The Jimmy Stewart Museum in downtown Indiana, PA. The museum is devoted to the famous actor’s film, radio, television and military careers, as well as his legacy as an active civic leader.  See artifacts from Stewart’s life, including objects from his Oscar-nominated role of George Bailey in the Christmas classic, “It’s A Wonderful Life”!  From November 21 through December 31, see a matinee of “It’s A Wonderful Life” at 1:00 PM in the Reschini Group Theater.  New in 2020:  Expanded “It’s A Wonderful Life” exhibits, a “festival of trees” spread throughout the museum and a breathtaking mural.  Make the Jimmy Stewart Museum a “must stop” during your visit to Indiana County this holiday season.  ** No admission fee to shop the gift shop** Masks Required. 2020 Holiday Store Window Model Train Displays
Dates: Select Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays beginning Saturday, November 14 through Sunday, December 13, 2020.  Find Dates HERE.
Location:  Indiana Mall,  2334 Oakland Ave., Indiana, PA 15701
Time: 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Information: Presented by Indiana Area Train Collectors and the Indiana Mall:  Train displays will be exhibited in the store windows across from Kay Jeweler’s located in the center of the Indiana Mall.  In support of COVID-19 safe guards and current health concerns association with spreading of the virus, there will be no physical access to the train exhibits by the public this year.  All are hopeful that for the 2021 Holiday Season, exhibits can be returned to normal operations and access.

Trees for Troops Day
Date: Saturday, December 5, 2020
Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Location: Mytrysak Family Tree Farm, 1803 Fleming Rd., Indiana, PA 15701
Information: Come and join us as we say “Thank you” to all our active duty men and women serving our country. Join us on Saturday when you will be able to purchase a tree individually or contribute towards the purchase of a tree. Come and enjoy many activities including a concession stand, tractor wagon rides, kids activities, Santa (from 10 AM – 2 PM) picture opportunities, and face painting. If you are unable to attend that day, you can still contribute to this great cause by contacting Mytrysak’s Family Tree Farm at 724.463.0570.

Wreaths for Indiana County Veterans
Date: Saturday, December 12, 2020
Time:  12:00 PM

Location: Indiana County Court  House, 825 Philadelphia Street, Indiana, PA 15701
Information: Formal wreath dedication ceremony will be held at the Indiana County Courthouse Veteran’s Wall.  As this memorial wreath is placed, volunteers from all over Indiana county will lay a similar wreath at the entrance of every cemetery in Indiana County.  Please consider donating to cover the cost of the wreaths.  Send your tax deductible contribution, payable to ALA Unit #141, to: Wreaths for Indiana County Veterans, PO Box 45, Kent, PA 15752-0045
