Fairs & Festivals
Indiana County, Pennsylvania boasts 31 Fairs and Festivals; each held annually and most have been around for quite some time. Each festival is unique in its own way promoting the local culture, history, agriculture, heritage, and just plain fun. The series of festivals begin in the spring continues through the summer with the height of activity in the fall when Indiana County shines with all its agriculture.
Maymart Flower and Craft Festival kicks off the season in the spring with an abundance of new plants to brighten up your garden. Jimmy Stewart Days are held at the Jimmy Stewart airport in June. Many WWII aircrafts are on display which are similar to what Jimmy Stewart flew while he served as a bomber pilot. During the same weekend the Pick-A-Dilly Herb Faire is held at the Dillweed B&B.
Unique festivals such as the Hoodlebug Summerfest held in Homer City near the Hoodlebug Trail, Christmas in July held at Idlewild Amusement Park and the Indiana County Fair carry on through the summer months of July and August.
An explosion of festivals begins in September with multiple fairs overlapping each other every weekend. There are plenty of Fall Festivals that keep visitors and locals busy. Couple the festivals with such events as Potters Tours, Artists Open Studio Tours and the Smicksburg Artisan Tour. Yarnick’s Family Pumpkin Patch and Haunted House and Scary Harry’s Haunted Trail and Smicksburg Old Fashioned Country Christmas Open House rounds out October and early November.
Indiana County is The Christmas Tree Capital of the World and the Holiday Season officially kicks off with the It’s a Wonderful Life Festival and Parade in November. Various Holiday Light-Up Nights adorn the streets of Homer City, Saltsburg, and Indiana. Pick and cut your favorite tree at one of Indiana County’s Christmas Tree Farms through the month of December. Throughout the entire month of December the Festival of Lights at Blue Spruce Park are lit until just after New Year’s.
